Youth Exploring Trades and Technologies Workshop -- Career Transitions is proud to be launching a new event for students in southern Alberta. YETT Workshop provides high school students, who are currently exploring career options, a firsthand look at the opportunities that working in trades and technology can provide. What students can expect from the day: Meet hosts working in trades and technology – start your own network of contacts; Participate in interactive displays – rather than just talking to hosts, you get to experience a small part of the job and gain a greater insight into what they really do; Vote on a ‘Best Trade of the Day’ display; Learn what it takes to work in trades and technologies, the highlights / lowlights of the job, and what hosts wish they would have known in high school. Students will also have the opportunity to donate blood on behalf of the Coaldale Cares Campaign on Friday, December 9th. Canadian Blood Services LifeBus will pick up student blood donors at 8:45 a.m. and take them to the Lethbridge Blood Donor Clinic. The students will be returned to Kate Andrews by the LifeBus at approximately noon. Interested students need to see Mrs. Flexhaug to sign up.
Kate Andrews will be participating in the Canadian Blood Services Coaldale Cares Campaign by holding a “What’s Your Type” demonstration of blood typing on Monday, December 5th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students who are under the age of 17 must have a consent form signed to participate. Please see Mrs. Flexhaug to get a consent form.
Participate and be mentored in a mock JDC West business competition alongside some of the U of L’s top management students and experience university life from the inside. JDC West is the premier competition for business and management students across Canada and the U of L JDC West team is opening one of their practice competitions to high school students across Alberta, provided you are available to travel to Lethbridge for the day. The business case competitions are designed to accelerate students’ business skills and challenge them to succeed. The competition will involve learning management skills, teamwork, activities, and fun! The real competition will held in January 2012, but space is limited to 20 high school students across Alberta; please apply early! See Mrs. Flexhaug for registration details.
The Government of Alberta is now accepting submissions for the Alberta Consumer Champion Awards. This is a poster competition open to youth between the ages of 15 and 18, encouraging youth to gain a better understanding of how to protect themselves from the risks of identity theft, renting a place of their own, consumer contracts, internet shopping and buying a car. Design an original poster and complete a research questionnaire to become eligible for awards of $1000, $500 or $250.
