KAHS Covid Start Up 2020 - Information/Handbook

KAHS Covid Start Up 2020 Handbook Aug 29 2020

Dear Kate Andrews High School families,

Staff have been working to create a safe and attainable plan for students to return to classes.  Based on AHS, Alberta Education and Palliser School Division guidelines we have created a working handbook (to be located on our school website) that allows for parents and students to understand how school will function when we return.  Please understand that this document will grow and evolve as we learn and adjust procedures at Kate Andrews High School. These adjustments will be made to, as best as possible, ensure safety and allow for quality learning.

Please read through the attached document.  Upon reading the document you may have many questions and concerns.  Administration will do its best to answer your questions and make adjustments where we see fit.

Although, I do not want to repeat information found in the document, I will highlight just a few things.

1.  Our normal registration procedures and first day of classes have changed. Each grade level will spend one full day in school alone with staff to take care of registration, textbooks and to learn procedures to be used while attending school.  Administration will take the time to meet with each of the 4 cohorts (per grade) on that day.  We will talk about our learning scenario and answer questions.  This day is important in terms of ensuring we do things right when all students return and to allow for students to become comfortable with our new learning reality.

2.  The entire KAHS class schedule is currently undergoing changes so that we may adhere to AHS guidelines. Please understand that student’s schedules may not be fully completed at the time that classes resume (especially in the case of semester 2).  Much of semester 1 should be complete. Grade 9's and 10's should have full schedules at that point.  Some grade 11's and twelves may need more courses, and that will be part of our drop/add procedure to ensure we fulfill grad requirements.  The point here is for everyone to have patience.   This will allow us to build a better program around the new limitations to programming due to cohorting.

Finally, I just want to thank the students and parents of KAHS for your patience and understanding during this tumultuous time.  I appreciate all of the emotions, concerns, etc that inundate people's minds at this time.  Rest assured we will do our absolute best with the resources we are afforded to keep children and adults safe and to provide a high quality education.

Stay safe and enjoy your last days of summer!
